Stop Dreaming

You may say I’m a dreamer. But I’m not the only one! That John Lennon line rings so true with me. I’ve been a dreamer all my life. I have perpetuated it for as long as I can remember and have told myself that is what I am, a dreamer. I have the word “dream” in large wooden letters in my home office, you can find dream-related trinkets throughout my house. I’ve always believed in dreaming big.
The problem with being a dreamer is that dreamers dream. Dreamers are not good at making their dreams a reality. Dictionary.com defines a dreamer as: “a person who lives in a world of fantasy; one who is impractical and unrealistic.” That pretty much sums up a lot of my life. Don’t get me wrong - I have been blessed with some amazing things in my life, many of which I dreamed about. But when it comes to goals and resolutions set, I rarely see those come to fruition. I am a creative person so my mind is always filled with lots of ideas (aka dreams).
I no longer want to be a dreamer. I need to release myself from that label (which I put on myself) and start DOING! Doing takes action - like writing this! I’ve been dreaming about writing a book for years. Too many years to count. But why? Why haven’t I set the solid goals and steps necessary to actually sit down and write, and get the damn book written?! Good question! I would best admit that it is because of fear. Fear that if I write it nobody will read it. Or fear that I will get stuck and never finish it. Or fear that it will simply suck! Well, I have learned that fear is a liar! Yep - a liar. So I need to release myself from that fear too to set out and complete this book. I want to leave my dreams for when I’m sleeping. When I’m awake I want to take action and DO.
I recently moved and decided it was time to get rid of my “dream” decor and trinkets. That is not what I need to surround myself with. Nike has had it right all along, “Just Do It”! Can you imagine if we all just did what we’ve been wanting/dreaming/thinking about? Imagine a world of doers! A world full of people living out their callings and using their gifts. I’ve always believed that God gives us each gifts and we honor Him when we use them and live them out. When we are living out what God has gifted us with, we are fulfilled at so many levels. Happiness, peace, love, and so many more good things come from living the life we were destined to live.
So what is it in your life that you’ve been dreaming about for too long? What gift or gifts have you ignored for too long? I’m a professional excuse-maker and I’ve used them all. Sure, I already mentioned fear. But then there is time, kids, husband, family issues, health issues, pet issues, and the list just continues. But let’s face it - it all comes down to setting aside the fear and all the bs that you’ve told yourself, and do it! Really, just do it. Even if you only spend five to ten minutes of your day doing whatever “it” is - do it. You’ll be so happy you did and God will reward you for honoring Him with the gifts he gave you. I know personally that when I stop the excuses and sit down to write, my spirit is lifted and I can’t help but smile and enjoy it.
Today is the day - Stop fearing the what-ifs and take action to do! If a dream has been placed in your heart, it is your job to wake up and make it happen. Don’t stay stuck in a dreamstate. Be encouraged that you already have what it takes to fulfill your dream.
